Kings Gospel Mission Update and Activities

1. Restructuring and Creating a
Christ-Centered Culture

We are restructuring a few areas of the organization to ensure that discipleship remains at the center of what we do. Our goal is to create a stronger, more intentional Christ-centered culture throughout the organization. We want everything we do to point guests toward Christ and help them grow in their relationship with God.

2. Restructuring and Improving the Thrift Store
We are also beginning to organize and restructure the thrift store. There is a need to make the store cleaner, more organized, and easier for customers to shop. The thrift store is an important source of income for the organization, so improving the shopping experience will help us better steward that resource and ultimately strengthen our ability to serve the community.

3. Academy and Discipleship
We currently have six Academy members that we are actively discipling. They come from a variety of backgrounds and circumstances. Some are fresh out of prison, some have experienced difficult seasons in life and needed a place to stay, and others are recovering from addiction.
Our goal is not simply to provide them with housing or a temporary place to stay. We want to help them establish a firm foundation in the Gospel, grow in their relationship with Christ, and learn responsibility, accountability, and healthy life habits. Ultimately, we want to prepare each person to leave the program with the tools, faith, and responsibilities necessary to return to the community and live a healthy, productive, Christ-centered life.
These changes are part of our larger goal of making sure that what we do as an organization is not simply about meeting immediate needs, but about helping people move forward spiritually, personally, and practically.

4. Continuing to Serve Our Homeless Community
Alongside these changes, we continue to actively serve people experiencing homelessness in our community. We are currently providing shelter and housing, preparing approximately 30 meals each day, allowing people to come in to shower and charge their devices, and helping individuals navigate and complete government assistance forms. We are also continuing to meet other practical needs as they arise like filling out papers for medical or financial assistance.
All of our staff members wear many hats. Some days we are pastors; other days we are firefighters, putting out fires and handling unexpected challenges. The next day we may find ourselves serving as counselors, mentors, or simply being a friend to someone who needs one. Our roles may change from day to day, but one thing remains constant: we are here to serve, love people, and be the hands and feet of Jesus in whatever way God calls us to.
